Harper-Lee Wins Happily!

In the Central Test Junior 1,000 metre event it was a first win for Harper-Lee Basten. Harper-Lee ran hard early to ensure that the rest of the field had no hope of catching her and crossed the line 30 seconds clear of second place. Isabella Ellis stormed home to catch Livinia Douglass shortly before the line and they filled second and third places. Oliver Stewart ran the Fastest Time for the event with a good 4:27 on a slow course.

Demilition!

After only having three races last season due to Year 12 study commitments it took Demi Goodall-Hoffman a few races to find form and fitness but on Sunday at No. 7 Reservoir in the Boundary Hotel 3km Handicap it all came together. Demi ran her fastest time since August 2014 and left the field in her wake to cross the line 19 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

Emma's First and Fastest

Last year’s Girl’s Champion Emma Gilligan reminded her competitors why she won that title with a commanding win in the Junior 1km event at No. 7 Res on Sunday. Emma passed Baxter Parker in the last 100 metres of the event and pulled away to win by four seconds.

Baxter narrowly claimed second place, holding off a fast-finishing Ava Stewart by two seconds. Ava and Baxter are expected to again fight out the finish at their next meeting.

Ben Goode, Ingrid Better

After finishing in the first six in 8 out of her 9 starts this season the consistent Ingrid Douglass mastered the tough Mandurang course on Sunday to record her second win for the year. After having won the third heat of this year’s Flack Advisory Grand Prix Series Ingrid’s season went from good to great when she took out the Vin Drechsler Memorial 5k Handicap.

Speaking of good, in the battle of the school-teachers Girton’s Ingrid inflicted a 9 second defeat on Catholic College’s Ben Goode who stormed home for second place.

Isabella Breaks Through!

Mandurang is the toughest course on the race calendar and when a field of 11 tackled the 1k course on Sunday it was last year’s Junior Aggregate Champion Isabella Ellis who came out on top. Starting 5 seconds behind Isabella, Baxter Parker challenged her all the way but Isabella crossed the line 10 seconds clear to break through for her first win for the season.

Baxter hung on for second place, 3 seconds ahead of the fast finishing Jaymin Boulton. Jaymin and Baxter are expected to fight out the next race, to be held at No. 7 Reservoir on Sunday July 10.
