Kerry Kruises to Victory

After filling second, third and fourth places in last week’s 8km event Woodvale Michael Preece, Glenn Roulston and Ben Goode thought the only question was which of them would win the Purtill’s Nursery 6.5km race at Huntly on Sunday.  However there was one small thing they didn’t allow for.

That small thing was determined first-year runner Kerry Ellis.  Kerry, whose times have improved by more than 30 seconds per kilometre this season, led the race from start to finish and never looked seriously threatened, cruising to the finish 18 seconds clear of Glenn Roulston.

Ava's A Winner!

The Central Test Junior 1k event returned the 15th different winner from 15 races.  Ava Stewart raced to a convincing win in her fastest time of the season, crossing the line 13 seconds ahead of the next runner.  The incredibly consistent Harper-Lee Basten, who has finished first or second in six of her last seven starts, claimed second place again, holding off the fast finishing Connor Findlay by 5 seconds.  Jazlin Fear improved her season’s best by 9 seconds, running fastest time for the event of 3:47.

Kevin Kicks On!

With 500 metres to go in Sunday’s Bendigo Athletic Club Viatek 8k handicap it was a race in three with backmarker Michael Preece closing in on Kevin Shanahan and Glenn Roulston.  Kevin showed the benefit of more than 30 years of training and competition, managing to find the something extra needed to hang on for a 7 second victory in a good time of 34:06 over the challenging Woodvale course.  This was Kevin’s best performance for the season so far.

Baxter Breaks Through!

The Central Test Junior 1k event returned the 14th different winner from 14 races.  This week it was the turn of Baxter Parker who showed the field a clean pair of heels to win by 12 seconds.  Despite a tightened handicap after last week’s win Harper-Lee Basten backed up well and narrowly claimed second place, managing to hold off the fast finishing backmarker Jazlin Fear by 1 second, with 3 more runners finishing within 13 seconds of Jazlin.

Lachlan Locks Up Another Win!

In only his first year of running with the Bendigo Athletic Club 14-year-old Lachlan Perdon won his second race of the season in the Schultz and Stewart Landscaping 6500 metre handicap at Notley’s Reserve on Sunday.  Improving on a second place at his previous start Lachlan hit the front with over a  kilometre of the race to go and drew away to win by 24 seconds.
