Azimi Zooms to Victory at MCG!

Race 11 of the Bendigo Athletic Club’s cross country season has been run and won by first year athlete and club rising star, Reza Azimi.  16 year old Azimi has taken to cross country running like a duck to water and has been able to improve with each race that he has contested.  The Mandurang Cricket Ground (MCG) provided a tough hilly course in which athletes competed over the traditional 6.5km.  The race kindly sponsored by The Rising Sun Hotel, was always going to be a demanding one on this course, however Azimi once again managed to show his improvement to record his fastest time with t

Ava Takes a Win!

In the Children’s 1km race on Sunday Ava Stewart finally broke through for her first win of the year after finishing second in her last two attempts.  In what was a great race to watch, Baxter Parker hit the lead early on and looked the one to beat.  Baxter kept answering the challenges but with about 30 metres to go he started tiring and Ava stormed past to win an exciting race by three seconds.  Isabella Ellis also came flying home finishing just a further two seconds back to take third place.  Baxter Parker, Jack Parker and Isabella ran PB’s while Ava Stewart also ran fastest for the gir

Kane Chased by a Chook and a Chick?

Mandurang Cricket Ground is the venue this Sunday for the eleventh race of the Bendigo Athletic Club cross-country season, the Rising Sun Hotel 6500 metres Handicap.

 

Last week’s second-placegetter Kane Ellis is the hot favourite but Chook Stewart and Ingrid Douglass are expected to be breathing down his neck when the finish comes in sight.  Those three won’t have it all their own way either, with in-form runners Reza Azimi, Kevin Shanahan and Gab Sait also planning to spring a surprise.

 

Perdon Prevails at No. 7 Reservoir

On a day when there were many chances, it was Mark Perdon who showed the most grit and steely determination to take out race 10 of the Bendigo Athletic Club cross country season.  The 8km event kindly sponsored by Central Trophies promised to be a close finish and it certainly didn’t disappoint!  Perdon was one of the many pre race favourites but certainly didn’t have it all his own way.  Of the numerous challengers the strongest came from both Kane Ellis and Chook Stewart as both went about putting immense pressure on the rest of the field.  After being run down whilst leading for a long w
