The Woodvale Recreation Reserve is the venue this Sunday for the fourth race of the Bendigo Athletic Club cross-country season, the Vin Drechsler Memorial 6500 metres Handicap. This event has a special meaning for the Club as Vin, a long-standing and generous sponsor of the BAC, passed away recently.
The hot favourite for the race is Shepparton runner Josh Sait. Sait won the BAC Club Championship three years in a row until a 2014 season marred by injury stopped his sequence. Josh appears to be approaching his previous best form and will take some stopping, particularly after having finished second to Michael Preece in the last Club run.
Sait is unlikely to have it all his own way however with plenty of others, led by Kyall Britten and Rhonda Schultz, looking to upstage him and grab the win and the accompanying $250. The senior race will commence at 10:30am and will be preceded by a Children’s Race over 1000 metres at 10am. In the last Kid’s race sisters Sydney and Arabella Findlay finished one second apart in second and third so another close battle is anticipated.
