BAC members are mourning the loss of John Burke, one of the early pillars of the BAC.
As well as having a successful career as a competitor in both the track and cross-country spheres, John was also a friend, coach and mentor of many of the runners he met during his long association with the Club.
John was involved in the founding of the BAC and was awarded its first Life Membership in 1981. His association with the Club continued for another four decades, until unfortunately ill health limited his involvement in recent years.
The enormous contribution John made to the Clubrooms was recognised by having the Committee Room named in his honour, and in 2014 his contribution to athletics in the Bendigo region more widely was recognised when he was awarded a medal in the Order of Australia.
The President and Committee of the BAC offer their condolences to John's family and the many runners he's coached and befriended over the years.
