Carol Stewart demonstrated class in this Sunday’s Bendigo Athletic Club (BAC) event by taking out the Viatek Central Victoria sponsored race.
A field of 21 turned out for the 8km event with Stewart starting at the front of pack with a handicap of 50 seconds with Rhonda Schultz being the only runner in front of Stewart, starting 10 seconds in front of 40 seconds.
Stewart managed to work her way through the gruelling 8km distance held at Woodvale to surpass Schultz and hold off the 19 runners behind her including her fast finishing husband ‘Rod Stewart’ who finished only 8 seconds behind Carol to come in at 2nd place.
BAC club President Mark Perdon also ran well to finish in at 3rd place.
Today’s win is the first win in a while for Stewart who has ran placings since 2016 but has come short of a win until now making this win all the more worthwhile.
Stewart also took out first place for the women’s and veterans categories
Fastest time went to Jacob Nolan in 28:12 with Ingrid Douglass running the fastest time for the women in 35:37.
Next Sundays race is a 6.5km located at Millers Flat Road, Whipstick starting at 10:30am.
