Schoolteacher Ben Goode taught the rest of the field a lesson when winning the Rising Sun Hotel 6.5km event at No. 7 Reservoir on Sunday. Ben’s emphatic winning margin of 48 seconds meant his victory was never really in doubt. He hit the front with 1km to run and powered home, leaving Paul Bennett to watch him disappear into the distance.
Paul held on for second place by 4 seconds from Michael Preece who, for the eleventh time in eleven races ran Fastest Time. Ben’s win was his tenth top-ten finish in a row and is his second victory for the season following his triumph in the Flack Advisory Grand Prix Second Heat in April.
Fastest woman in the event was Demi Goodall-Hoffman who once again showed her liking for the venue. Demi won the last Club event at No. 7, the 3km event held last month.
After his strong second place Paul Bennett will fancy his chances of a win at this week’s Adam Parker Electrical 5km handicap at the East Bendigo Rifle Range off Pratt’s Park Rd. However Glenn Roulston, who missed Sunday’s race because of work commitments returns this week and after two thirds and a second in his last three starts will also feel he has claims to the win.
And then there’s still the wily Club President Mark Perdon lurking in the background …
