Relay Winners Are Grinners

The Central Test sponsored Barry Stevenson Memorial Relays were held at No. 7 Reservoir on Sunday.  Six teams of three competed with the winners being the husband and wife team of Rhonda and Richard Schultz and their 'adopted son' Simon Hunt.  This trio ran strongly from start to finish but only hit the front in the last few hundred metres of the 9k event.

Notable performances on the day were:

Most Consistent Award: A tie between Ms. Consistent Ingrid Douglass and Mr. Consistent Kane Ellis who both completed all three legs with only 2 seconds between fastest and slowest.  Honourable mentions to Rhonda Schultz, Kerry Ellis and Carol Stewart.  Is it a coincidence that the female competitors seem to be much more dependable than their male counterparts?

Each Lap Was Faster Than the Last Award: A clear win to Isabella Ellis.  Lap 3 was 27 seconds faster than Lap 2 which was 11 seconds faster than Lap 1.  To cement her Iron-Woman status Isabella then ran the Junior 1k as well.  Honourable mentions: Carol Stewart, Peter Le Busque and Ian Beckerleg.

The 'How Come I'm Ranked Below John Bailey?' Award: Grant Findlay.  Grant was so incensed at being considered slower than John he then ran a cumulative five seconds faster than him just to prove the handicapper wrong.

The 'Family that Plays Together' Award: 5 of the 18 competitors were named Ellis, and they all performed well.  Although it must be noted that the Ellis women finished a close second while the Ellis men (with their 'adopted brother' Ian Beckerleg) finished a bit further back in fourth place.  Perhaps there will be a re-match at next years' Relays?
