Age and experience triumphed over youth and enthusiasm at Mandurang on Sunday in Race 2 of the Club’s regular season. Seasoned veteran Peter Le Busque ran strongly through the hills in the middle of the race and established a lead that Ingrid Douglass couldn’t overcome.
Ingrid finished powerfully and never gave up trying to bridge the gap over the closing stages of the 6.5k race but despite taking a couple of nervous glances over the shoulder Peter still had a 16 second lead when he crossed the finish line. Ingrid held on to take second place, with the fast-finishing Ben Goode only 4 seconds behind her. Fastest time for the day went to Michael Preece who ran 22:46 for the distance.
Ben and Ingrid can be expected to renew their battle and fight out a close finish in next Sunday’s 6.5k ‘Kel Pell’ event to be held at the Woodvale Recreation Reserve.
