Invincible Ingrid!

It was a week before Mother’s Day but the 3rd heat of the Flack Advisory Grand Prix Series was virtually a one woman show.  Ingrid Douglass started the race strongly, leaving the four men who began with her struggling in her wake.

By the halfway mark of the 5k event as Ingrid powered her way through the field it was clear that the only possible dangers to her were Simon Hunt and Darren Hartland.  These two ran on bravely but were never able to seriously threaten her grip on the race, with Simon finishing 2nd 12 seconds behind and Darren a further 5 seconds back in 3rd.  A measure of Ingrid’s performance is that despite very windy conditions her time for the 5k was 56 seconds faster than for the same distance 3 weeks ago which was run in perfect weather on an easier course.

The Club has next Sunday off to pay appropriate attention to the Mother’s in our midst, and then on May 15 gathers at No. 7 again for the Final of the Flack Advisory Grand Prix Series.  Over $2,000 prize money will be distributed amongst the 31 runners who have qualified for the Final and the favourite to take home the $1,250 first place purse is generally agreed to be … any one of the 31 in the field!
