After a recent third place for the Bendigo Athletic Club, Peter Le Busque went a couple better on Sunday morning, taking out race 10, the Viatek 8000M Handicap at No. 7 Reservoir in very chilly but sunny conditions.
In a field of 30 runners, it was Le Busque who ran the most convincing race. Le Busque went out hard in the first 5km to set up the lead and then held on very strongly as the backmarkers attempted to reel him in. The winning margin in the end was a commanding 32 seconds with Le Busque covering the course in a very respectable time of 34.32 minutes.
Second over the line was Peter Noden who chased hard but was unable to bridge the gap set up by Le Busque early in the race.
Also storming home was first year runner and ever improving, Daniel Ryan to take third place and would have to be a strong chance along with Noden to pick up a win in one the last few remaining races.
Le Busque’s great run also earned him top points in the Flack Advisory Veterans Award ahead of Peter Noden and Phil Noden.
First year runner Timon Dooley again recorded the fastest time of 27.52 minutes for the 8Km course ahead of Jacob Nolan 28.46 minutes and Phil Noden 29.13 minutes.
In the Bridge Hotel Open Award top points went to Daniel Ryan who was just ahead of Mel Gilligan with Ben Goode taking out third place.
Taking out the Bendigo Original Pie Shop Ladies Award, it was Mel Gilligan earning top points
with Demi Goodall-Hoffman second and Lyn Crome in third place.
The Liz and Mark Findlay U23 Award was taken out by Demi Goodall-Hoffman earning the
maximum followed closely by Jacob Nolan and Jesse Noden.
Due to sickness and other commitments, only 3 children braved the chilly conditions for the 1000
Metres Children’s event. However it was still a close race with Daniel Noden winning from
Isabella Ellis by only 6 seconds. Harper Kneebone ran a good race as well to be only a small
distance behind for third.
