No Points, Just a Sash and Some Cash

No 7 Reservoir in Kangaroo Flat is the venue this Sunday for the 13th race of the Bendigo Athletic Club cross-country season, the Rising Sun Hotel 3200 metres Handicap.  This race is different from the others on the Club calendar in that place-getters will receive no points in any of the club awards, nor will they suffer any penalties in the following week’s season ending Flack Advisory Dick Kitt Memorial Final.

But when the race is over the winner will still have $250 cash, a sash and bragging rights.  And with this event being over 3.2km it will be fast and furious with the quickest competitors taking around 11 minutes to complete the course.

Such a short event lends itself to a tight finish.  The favourite is last week’s second-placegetter Kane Ellis but he’s expected to have stiff competition from Rick Ermel, Chook Stewart, Ingrid Douglass, Rob McDonald and Daniel Plowright who are all capable of turning the tables on him.  The drop in distance will find out who still has some speed in their legs at the end of the winter season.

The senior race will commence at 10:30am and will be preceded by a Children’s Race over 1000 metres at 10am.  Last week in the Kid’s race Isabella Ellis notched her second win of the season and this time Connor Findlay, Baxter Parker and either of the Noden boys, Daniel or Matthew are expected to fight the race out.
