Kane Can!

28 runners toed the starting line for the first race of the Bendigo Athletic Club’s cross-country season at the East Bendigo Rifle Range on Sunday.  When the dust had settled a short time later 3rd year runner Kane Ellis had claimed his first win with the Club at his 23rd start.

Consistent Kane, who has finished no further back than 6th place in his last 9 races, won by an impressive 37 seconds from 2nd placed Paul Bennett.  Peter Le Busque stormed home over the last kilometre of the 5K course to miss catching Bennett by a mere 1 second.

Fastest time of the day went to Michael Preece in 17:07.  Ingrid Douglass was the fastest of the 7 women in the field, just sneaking under 22 minutes for the journey.

BAC runners’ attention now turns to the Flack Advisory Grand Prix Series to be held at No. 7 Reservoir.  Comprising 3 heats and a Final the Series carries $1,250 prizemoney for the winner and is open to all and entry for the series is a bargain at $20.
